Can I use Vlisco fabrics to create non-clothing items?Updated 2 months ago

We cannot guarantee that our fabrics will endure usage in upholstery as they were only designed with clothing in mind. However, some of our customers have had success with the use of our fabrics to create and modify furniture.

Using Vlisco fabrics for furniture may not always guarantee long-lasting results because these fabrics, while vibrant and high-quality, are primarily designed for fashion and garments rather than heavy-duty upholstery. When used on furniture, especially pieces exposed to a lot of friction or direct sunlight, the colours and patterns can be affected over time.

Friction

Frequent use, such as sitting or rubbing against the fabric, can wear down the material and cause fading or damage to the colours. Unlike fabrics specifically made for upholstery, Vlisco fabrics may not withstand the constant friction that furniture experiences.

Sunlight

Long-term exposure to direct sunlight can also lead to colour fading. Vlisco fabrics, like many textiles, are sensitive to UV rays, which may cause their rich colours to gradually lose their vibrancy.

Water

Our fabrics can withstand some rain, however they were not designed for use against rain or prolonged exposure to water, especially because of the inks used in the dyeing process.

While Vlisco fabrics are beautiful and bold, it's important to be mindful of these factors when considering them for furniture upholstery to ensure the best and longest-lasting results.
